Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 July 2026

Your privacy matters. Planet-B is built to preserve human contribution, not to exploit personal data. You control what is public and what stays private, and Planet-B never sells your personal data. This Policy explains what we collect, why, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to personal data we process when you use Planet-B — our websites, the Planet Passport, Planet-B Studio, and related services (the “Services”). It should be read together with our Terms of Service.

2. Who is responsible for your data

Planet-B is the controller of the personal data described in this Policy. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@planet-b.tech.

3. Information we collect

Information you provide. When you create a Planet Passport we collect your name, email address, country, and the member type you select. We store your password only as a salted, hashed value — we never see it in plain text. We also collect the Contributions and metadata you choose to preserve or publish.

Information collected automatically. When you use the Services we may collect limited technical and usage data — such as device and browser type, IP address, and pages viewed — through essential cookies and server logs, to keep the Services secure and working.

Verification data. If you use features that require identity verification, we (or our verification providers) may process additional information solely for that purpose and as required by law.

4. How we use your information

  • to create and operate your Planet Passport and authenticate you;
  • to preserve, publish, and display your Contributions according to your visibility settings;
  • to provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Services and the Archive;
  • to communicate with you about your account, security, and important changes;
  • to prevent fraud and abuse and to comply with our legal obligations.

5. Legal bases (where applicable)

Where data-protection law such as the GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (to provide the Services); your consent (for example, when you publish a Contribution, or for optional communications); our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Services, in a way that does not override your rights); and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time.

6. Public and private contributions

You decide what is public and what is private. Contributions you publish to the permanent Archive are, by design, discoverable by others and preserved for the long term. Please do not publish personal or sensitive information you would not want to be public or preserved. See our Terms of Service for how the permanent Archive works.

7. How we share information

We never sell your personal data. We share personal data only as follows:

  • Service providers. Trusted processors who host, secure, email, or otherwise help us run the Services, under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only on our instructions.
  • Public content. Contributions and profile details you choose to make public are visible to others by design.
  • Legal reasons. Where required to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the Services and the Archive.
  • Organisational changes. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or reorganisation, subject to this Policy continuing to protect your data.

8. Retention and the permanent Archive

We retain account data for as long as your Passport is active and as needed to provide the Services. Because preservation is our purpose, Contributions you have published to the permanent Archive, and verified historical records, may be retained indefinitely and may persist in backups and derived records even after you restrict or unpublish them. Personal data that is not part of the permanent public record is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer needed, subject to legal requirements.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request erasure of your personal data — noting that content preserved in the permanent public Archive may be subject to preservation and legal limits;
  • restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent;
  • request portability of data you provided to us;
  • lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

To exercise these rights, email privacy@planet-b.tech. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

10. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to keep the Services secure. We do not use cookies to sell your data. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may affect how the Services work.

11. Security

We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect your personal data, including password hashing, encryption in transit, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect the Archive, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. International transfers

Planet-B is a global archive, and your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this Policy and applicable law.

13. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 16 (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us personal data without appropriate consent, contact privacy@planet-b.tech and we will take appropriate steps.

14. Third-party links

The Services may link to third-party sites we do not control. This Policy does not apply to those sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy practices.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you and will update the date above. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
